Getting started
Pilot App Pro works from the operational flight plan (OFP) PDF your operator issues. The PDF must contain real text (not a scanned image) and a flight log in the format the app reads.
- Open Select Flightplan on the home screen and tap Import from Files…, or share the PDF from Mail or Files with Open in Pilot App Pro.
- The plan is copied into the app and selected. Its key data appears under the app name: flight, departure and destination, ETD and ETA, flight time, minimum takeoff fuel, flight plan fuel, planned takeoff weight, payload, distance and registration.
- If the iPad is online, weather, NOTAMs and exchange rates download in the background. The status line under the flight data shows when they were updated.
To try the app without a flight plan of your own, tap Load demo flight plan (PAP101 KSFO–EGPK) in Select Flightplan. The demo is a fictional flight with a real route and real numbers, so every tool has something to show.
WP ETA
A compact list of every waypoint with its leg time (ZT), ETA and an ATA field.
- Set the takeoff time with Takeoff Time at the top right. It is pre-filled with STD + 15 minutes when a new plan is loaded; overwrite it with the actual time.
- Enter an ATA at any fix and every later ETA, including the destination, is re-forecast from it using the OFP leg times.
- A red banner appears if the flight log does not add up (accumulated time ≠ previous + leg time, or the log does not end at the destination). The ETAs are still shown; you decide.
- Pinch, or use the magnifier menu, to zoom between 80 and 250 %.
Flight Plan
The whole OFP as a working document: the filed route at the top, then the complete flight log and the alternate flight log, followed by the route to the alternate, wind/temperature summary, FPL and remarks, the takeoff and landing report and the plan information.
Route and clearance
Copy puts the route with departure and destination on the clipboard. Write the ATC clearance in the two-line field under it.
Classic and Modern layouts
Open the menu at the top right and choose Layout:
- Classic (OFP) shows the log as printed, column for column. Zoom in, zoom out or fit to width from the same menu, or pinch.
- Modern shows one card per waypoint across the full width. On an iPad in landscape every value is on one line; narrower screens show the most-used values.
Logging a waypoint
Tap the ATA or AFR field of a waypoint, or its pencil icon. A sheet opens for that waypoint:
- ATA and AFR, pre-filled with the ETA and the planned fuel remaining. If you are on time and on fuel, tap Save; otherwise change what differs. The difference to plan is shown in minutes and in 100 kg.
- RVSM check: captain's, first officer's and standby altimeter in feet. The app shows ALT 1 − ALT 2 and ALT 1 − STBY; compare them with the limits in your manual.
- RNP and ANP.
- Actual wind and temperature, with the OFP's planned wind and OAT below for comparison.
- Gross Error Check performed, and free notes with quick buttons for position report, SELCAL, HF, fuel check and CPDLC logon.
Nothing is stored until you tap Save. What you logged appears as a line under the waypoint.
Takeoff time, block times and fuel
Takeoff Time in Flight Plan opens the block-time card:
- OUT, OFF (takeoff), ON and IN, with block and air time.
- Inbound fuel, total uplift (the sum of the fuel slips, or typed in when there are none), ramp fuel, block-in fuel and fuel used. Inbound and ramp fuel are shared with Fuel Check.
- The fuel check: inbound fuel plus uplift, less APU burn, against the ramp fuel on the gauges, with the difference in kg, US gallons and percent.
- Fuel slips: tap Add for each slip and enter the quantity, its unit (litres, US gallons or kg), the TX number and the density from the slip. The total uplift is shown in kg.
Captain's signature
CAPT SIGN under the toolbar opens a signature pad and a picker for the captain from the crew list.
Send & Sync
After the flight, tap SEND & SYNC next to CAPT SIGN. The app sends the device model and app version, the flight summary, block times, inbound fuel, the fuel slips with their TX numbers, uplift, ramp and block-in fuel, fuel used, the fuel check and the captain's name to the company back office, where finance can export them. The button turns green, SYNCED, when the back office has the flight. If there is no connection nothing is sent; tap it again later. No flight plan PDF and no signature image are sent.
Copy Route
One tap copies the routing only, from the SID or first fix to the last fix, ready to paste into the route field of an EFB app such as FliteDeck Pro. Touch and hold for other formats: the route as filed, with departure and destination, or without speed and level groups.
FPL Map
The route on a map with departure (green), arrival (red), alternate (orange) and en-route alternates (yellow).
- Online uses Apple Maps; Offline draws the app's own globe from map data on the iPad and works without any connection.
- The arrow button starts the moving map from the iPad's position, with ground speed, altitude, track, and distance and ETA to destination. If the position is lost, your own-ship symbol is removed within three seconds.
- Position needs an iPad with a cellular/GPS chip; Wi-Fi-only iPads have no GPS.
Preflight Items
A checklist whose status line runs from red to green as you tick items off, ending in ALL GREEN. Switches at the top add the items for dangerous goods or NOTOC cargo, temperature-controlled cargo and oceanic flights. In Pro 1 you can edit the whole list; in Pro 2 the operator's items are fixed and you can add your own after them.
Fuel Check
The refuelling check: arrival fuel plus the uplift from the fuel slip, converted with the slip density, compared with the gauges. The difference is shown in kg, US gallons and percent. The app applies no pass/fail limit; the tolerance is in your manual.
Weather, runway wind and NOTAMs
- METAR/TAF for all airports in the plan plus any you add. Reports older than 90 minutes are marked OLD.
- Runway Wind gives headwind, tailwind and crosswind for every runway end from the latest METAR, best headwind first. No aircraft limits are applied.
- FPL NOTAM shows the NOTAM pages of the OFP, grouped and searchable, offline.
- NOTAM downloads current NOTAMs for the plan's airports when you tap Refresh.
Calculators and references
- Great Circle Distance between the plan's airports and your own city pairs.
- Converter for distance, altitude, speed, vertical speed, weight, volume, temperature, pressure, and fuel volume to weight.
- Currency with ECB reference rates, kept for offline use.
- E6B: wind triangle, find wind, wind components, TAS/Mach/CAS, pressure and density altitude, time-speed-distance, fuel and descent planning.
- FT/MTR: the metric flight-level table and a quick finder from metres to feet and back.
- Delay Codes: the IATA delay codes, searchable.
PDF Reader
A library for flight plans, manuals and other PDFs, stored on the iPad and readable offline.
- Import several PDFs at once, sort them, make folders, rename, move and share.
- Full-text search highlights every hit; step through them or open the list of results with page and line.
- The bookmark button marks the page you are on. The list button opens Contents (the PDF's own table of contents), Bookmarks and Highlights; tap an entry to go there.
- Select text and tap Highlight to mark it yellow. Select highlighted text and tap Remove Highlight to clear it. Highlights are saved in the PDF itself.
Pilot App Pro 2 tools
- Manuals: upload your operator's manuals with their revision and date; the previous revision is kept as superseded.
- Compliance: checks the flight plan against your operator's rules from the uploaded manuals and operator data, with the source of each finding.
- MEL: builds an MEL brief PDF for the open items, with the relevant pages from your MEL.
- Yoke Sheet and Loadmaster: the crew worksheets filled from the OFP, ready to print.
- Flight record: a log of what was loaded, entered and checked on each flight, chained so later changes show. Export it as PDF from About / Data.
About and your data
Tap ⓘ next to the app name for versions, the dates of the built-in airport, runway and map databases, the age of the last downloads and, in Pro 2, manual revisions and flight records.
The app has no account and sends nothing in the background except the weather, NOTAM and exchange-rate downloads when a flight plan is chosen online. Your flight plans, manuals and notes stay on the iPad. Only Send & Sync, when you tap it, sends the flight summary and fuel figures to the back office.
